My mom told me once that I couldn’t stay up overnight to watch the World Cup unless I was getting paid to do it. Obviously, I didn’t get paid — I was 14 years old. Obviously, I stayed up anyway.

I’ve got dozens of those moments up in my brain. Kris Bryant slip-and-throwing the Cubs to the 2016 World Series title with my Chicago-raised dad. The Legion of Boom three years before that (more importantly, I remember my mom calling me in sick to school for the parade). Jumping up and down in the 300-level seats watching the Sounders win MLS Cup in 2019.

Those moments, and my memories of them, live at the base of why I love sports. I love being the one who records them. I love being the one to help preserve stories. That’s who I am — a storyteller. I’ve fallen in love with taking pictures of those moments with my words.

I’m lucky enough that it’s now my job. I’m a sportswriter for the Daily Emerald, Eugene’s independent student newspaper. I’m studying at the University of Oregon and following the football team as a part of the marching band, where I play the baritone horn. I’ve covered my hometown soccer team, the Sounders, for an outlet that I helped found. I’ve gone memory-chasing up and down the West Coast, and I can’t wait to go even further.

Reach out with an idea, a memory, or a question, and I’ll get back to you as soon as I can.
